Holiday on a Cattle Ranch

Valentines day on the Ranch was quiet and sunny. A little snow in the skies later on but all in all, quite warm and a good day to celebrate for! I don't think that any of the animals were too interested in what day it was, they were just happy when I came to feed them their hay with the horses (Tia & Willa) with the sleigh.
When I began feeding the cattle with Tia & Willa early in January, they had a much thicker layer of "fat" on their bodies and looked rather round. Now, after all the work they have been doing, almost daily, they have shaped up and actually look like horses now. We have gotten use to each other well and I really enjoy driving them as a team. The best part is when we're headed back to the hay stackyard to load up and I can stand on the back of the empty sleigh on the way there and let the ladies cruise, it's almost like surfing! I have to keep my balance because the sleigh moves side to side a bit, especially when we're going faster.

Old News! 02/17/2011

This film is a nice summary of many things that have been happening on and near the Ranch in the past few years.
Hopefully you enjoy the part where I am herding a whole bunch of our ranch horses towards the camera, because it took a lot of "runs" to get that one right for the movies. I told the horses that they would be movie stars but I don't think that helped them cooperate in running just the "perfect" direction for the camera man.
